While MasterChef: Back to Win has so far proven to be a parade of unending (if not deeply stressful) delights, the one dark cloud hanging over the series is the looming exit of season nine runner-up Ben Ungermann, who was confirmed to have been removed from production following a real-life arrest over an undisclosed matter.

Little is still known about the details of the arrest itself, however Ungermann has been slyly providing comment on the issue via Instagram comments as of late, including addressing the issue of just how producers and editors are going to handle his disappearance from the series.

Though he stopped short of revealing just how that will play out on-screen, Ungermann did give a terse response to a fan who pushed the question, stating “that’s up to MasterChef Australia.

Additionally, Ungermann made a cryptic remark regarding his arrest and removal from the show, which was confirmed by series producers. Ungermann told a fan “don’t believe everything you read” in regards to the whole saga, implying there’s more to play out at this stage.

No further information on the saga has been made available since the revelation of his booting became public. However it’s understood that Ungermann will feature in the current MasterChef season for at least the next few weeks, after which his removal will be addressed in some form.

Who knows where all this goes from here, but it’s shaping up as a pretty big mess.
