Alex Nation Opens Up About Post-‘Bachie’ Backlash During Instagram Q&A

Almost two months after The Bachelor‘s finale made us question reality itself, the show’s final contestant Alex Nation has taken to Instagram to field questions from the still-skeptical masses.

And look, she doesn’t come across too badly.

Addressing issues like her beau Richie Strahan, her son Elijah, the so-close-yet-so-far Nikki Gogan and even her favourite Pokémon, Nation does a pretty good job of healing the trauma of the show’s final outing.
When asked about the hate lumped her way after the finale, Nation said “it was disappointing to see so much negativity as I myself couldn’t imagine ever being like that to another person, especially someone who I do not know.

People become very invested with the show and I understand that viewers felt Nikki’s heartbreak and empathised with her. Half of Australia was heart broken also! And that’s ok.

However, it’s much [nicer] to be happy for others if they are happy rather than putting negativity on that happiness.”
She went on to write “when I watched the finale, seeing Nikki so upset broke my heart and I cried for her/with her. I felt everything.”

Same here, Alex.

As far as her experience on the show goes, she couldn’t have nicer things to say. We mean, it makes sense she’d still be stoked on it – she won, after all – but Nation even downplayed the show’s inherently weird premise by saying “I had a full [understanding] that Richie had to go on individual journeys with each girl to discover who was the one for him.

“I’m just so thankful it led him to me.”
Speaking of the square-jawed and cool-banana’d devil, she maintained he’s “kind, genuine, caring, generous, humble and goodness he can make me laugh.”

We can personally vouch for that last part, too.

She also explained the current sitch regarding Strahan and her son by saying “Elijah has a father, Rich would never want to try and take that away from Joel [Porter]. However I am so thankful that he has such an amazing role model and male figure in his life.”

A commenter who uses a wheelchair asked Nation for advice on “how to help people become comfortable around it in terms of dating.” Nation, whose former partner uses a wheelchair, replied “you be comfortable with who you are and never let the chair define who you are.

“… I didn’t even notice the chair. We shared a very normal relationship together and I loved him for who he is and I admired him/looked up to him.”

And, if you’re wondering about the Pokémon thing: Squirtle. Her favourite is Squirtle.

If ya want to get inside the mind of a pretty solid human being, Nation is still answering Q’s riiight here.
