Alex Nation Slams Woman’s Day For “Trash” Piece On Her ‘New Relationship’

Bachie‘ winner Alex Nation has called out Woman’s Day for an article about her supposed new relationship, taking to her Instagram stories to slam its “absolute trash articles”.

While it’s not clear which article Alex was specifically calling out, it seems likely that it was the mag’s latest, a piece about Alex’s radio interview with 88.3 Southern FM that was angled to look like she was confirming her same-sex relationship with Maegan Luxa.

Stories about Alex apparently dating footy teammate have been splashed across news websites for the past week, based entirely on a series of pap shots (published by the Daily Mail) and with seemingly little regard for the ethics of ‘outing’ someone.

She hasn’t publicly commented on the rumours, either to confirm or deny, but danced close to the topic in yesterday’s radio interview, where she said she 100% supported marriage equality and that prior to joining her footy team, had never experienced friendships with queer women.

“We should celebrate love between people whether it is male, male and female or women and female. I think if you have a connection with someone you can’t – people can’t help who they connect with… that should be all that matters.

“Before being in a football club I didn’t have any friends that were in relationships with women, I’d never experienced that. Obviously I had seen it down the street and everything like that but I’d never experienced it first hand with my own friends. Since I have joined the football club, I now have many friends who are in same sex relationships and it opens your eyes to certain little struggles that they go through for women in a couple. At the same time, you see the two of them together and they are exactly the same as you would be [in a heterosexual relationship].”

Like many publications (this one included), Woman’s Day took this to mean she all but confirmed her relationship with Maegan.

Its headline, however, implied that Alex had confirmed, and included quotes from a ‘friend’ about how the two supposedly got together.

Friends of Alex and Maegan, a chef on the Mornington Peninsula, said Alex made the first move, despite previously being interested only in men.

“Alex was telling everyone that she had a crush on Maegan and then they shared a shoey (where you drink beer out of a shoe) and the rest was history.”

Looks like maybe not, hey.
