5 Promos That Prove The Oscars Might Be Worth Watching This Year

The Oscars is the awards show circuit’s big cheese. (On screen at least) Drinking is kept to a minimum, tears shed at a maximum, and no one ever gets slimed. That’s why it was pretty shocking when the Academy made the Golden Globes-esque move to appoint Family Guy creator and Ted writer/director Seth MacFarlane as the the 2013 host.

The Oscars has a reputation for playing it safe and the last time they made such an obvious grab for a younger audience, they put forth one of the worst double teams in Awards show history when James Franco and Anne Hathaway tanked in 2011. MacFarlane was a left-field, and hopefully inspired choice. That’s not to say we can expect vintage mass-offence causing MacFalane material about the holocaust, AIDS, or horse semen, but by the looks of these pretty clever Oscar promos, he’s going to make a great host.
