Seth MacFarlane, who has secured unprecedented levels of media attention this year through the release of his debut feature film Ted, his courtship of the mother of dragons Daenerys Targaryen, and hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time in his career, has now been honoured with the most thankless job in the business. The 38 year old voice actor and Family Guy creator will take the heat for other people’s stinkers at the 85th annual Academy Awards in February and attempt to fill the Anne Hathaway/James Franco shaped holes left in our hearts after the overzealous drama major/major stoned routine of last year’s telecast.
“We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh,” said telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”
Also worth noting is his demonstrated ability to recover and sing the shit out of a showtune.
