What To Mix With Spirits When The Vodka, Lime & Soda Thing’s A Yawn

Now that the weather is officially feeling more like an endless sauna than ever, I say it’s high time that we all took a moment outside, perhaps by a beach or pool, to sip a bev and revel in the fact that we’ve somehow made it around the sun for another year running.

But given you’re not a world-class mixologist (wrong of me to assume, I know), we’ve whipped up a coupla super simple cocktail recipes that’ll have you lackadaisically stretching out over a sun lounge, drink in hand, while you wait for your turn at bat in backyard cricket.

1. Jack & Ginger Beer

Hard to pass up a classic refreshing bevvy like a Jack & Ginger. Just rolls off the tongue, quite literally as you sip it while poolside or with some mates. Here’s how to get it done:

  • 30ml Jack Daniel’s Old No.7
  • Bundaberg Ginger Beer
  • Lime
  • Ice

Add ice and 30ml to a high glass, top with ginger beer and a squeeze of lime (or if you’re as lazy as I am, just open a Jack & Ginger Beer RTD and skip the mixing).

2. Finlandia Grapefruit & Soda

One of the absolute easiest drinks to indulge in on the list, it’s a tarty little bevvy that’ll have you feeling summery even after the sun’s down. Here’s how to make it:

  • 30ml of Finlandia Grapefruit
  • Soda Water
  • Ice

Add ice and 30ml of Finlandia Grapefruit to a high glass, then top with soda water. Seriously, it’s that easy. This is a drink you can knock up in no time flat and be back to the banter in seconds.

3. French Martini

Fancy and pink-toned. Think of it as James Bond but with a summer twist – and let nobody tell you it’s not manly to drink pink. Make it like this:

  • 20ml Chambord
  • 40ml Finlandia Vodka
  • 60ml Pineapple Juice

Take a shaker filled with ice. Add the Chambord, vodka and pineapple juice, then give it your best shake – no really, an enthusiastic one. Then just pour.

4. Lynchburg Lemonade

Love a little alliteration, I do. And you gotta love a drink that’s only three ingredients but tastes as fancy as if it had twelve. If you’re keen on giving it a whirl, here’s how:

  • 30ml of Jack Daniel’s Old No 7
  • 15ml of triple sec to a highball glass.
  • Lemonade to fill

Fill with ice, top up with lemonade and a squeeze of fresh lemon. Gotta get that zest into you somehow; after all, it’s summer and summer is the time for lemonade.

5. Jägermeister & Tonic

You probably fall into one of two categories: you love Jäger, or you cannot abide it. If you’re the former, this is a heck of a way to have it. Make it like this:

  • 40ml of Jägermeister
  • Tonic water to fill
  • Lime/lemon/orange zest

Start with a coupla cubes of ice in your glass (two or three is plenty) and douse them with 40ml of Jägermeister. Fill up the rest with your all-time fave tonic water and garnish with a curl of lime, lemon or orange zest – you know, for a bit of colour and excitement.

Given that the summer has us feeling like we’re quite literally melting into our chairs, we vote everyone takes a cheeky sip of their fave cocktail just to slip a bit of satisfying refreshment in between all the sweating.
