Here’s 5 Healthy-ish Drinks To Booze On That Aren’t Vodka Lime Sodas


You’re heading out for drinks, but you’re working on your rig. Do you go? Do you drink? Do you not? Do you just go hard, then rely on a purge the next day?
And if you are going to have a drink or ten, which to go for without totally blowing your calorie quota? A vodka, lime, soda, right?
NO. NOT RIGHT. WOULD RATHER HAVE A WATER.
Fear not: there is happy medium between healthy living and social boozing that’s not totally snooze, and you can find it in these healthy(ish) concoctions whipped up for P.TV by Bartender of the Year 2014 Nathan Beasely, of Black Pearl Bar in Fitzroy, Victoria.

CANTINEROS COCTEL

45ml Havana 7 Anos 
15ml Orange liqueur
15ml Fee Bros Falernum
5ml Ginger Juice
3 dashes Angostura Aromatic bitters
15ml Lime juice
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake hard and fast for 5 seconds, then double strain into a pre chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with lime zest.
Why you should drink it:
“The benefits of citrus and ginger juice is well documented, and Angostura bitters is often used as a herbal remedies for a range of illnesses.
Falernum is a syrup, originating out of the West Indies, that contains lime peel, ginger, clove, sugar and rum. Clove has many medicinal properties.”

CZECH-MATE

45ml Becherovka
15ml Lime juice
Top with Ginger Soda
Add all of your ingredients to a tall glass filled with ice, and garnish with a long straw and your spent like shell. 
Why you should drink it:
“Becherovka is a czech liqueur that has a range of different herbs and botanicals that make up its flavour profile. The main flavours are the Christmas spices of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. It is served as an aperitif and digestive, aiding
in the swift recovery from food comas.”

TEQUILA WITH A SANGRITA CHASER
No recipe. Simply a shot of tequila followed by a shot of your favourite sangrita recipe. Nathan’s concoction contains “tomato and pomegranate juices, onion, chilli, coriander, citrus, salt, pepper”. Chuck ingredients into a jug, pop into the fridge for an hour, and then serve chilled. 
Why you should drink it:
“Sangrita recipes are simple, healthy, and delicious. You sip on the tequila, and then the sangrita, back and forth. This is how a lot of Mexicans drink their tequila to get the best out of it.”

EAST SIDE COCKTAIL

60ml Tanqueray
30ml Lime juice
15ml Sugar syrup
8cm of cucumber
8 mint leaves

Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, then double strain into a pre chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with mint and cucumber.

Why you should drink it:
