NOT A DRILL: Messina Is Now In Yr Local Supermarket’s Ice Cream Section

For years, the only way you could get your mouth around some Messina gelato was to trip all the way to the city to go to one of the stores and take a solid 15 minutes to decide what you even wanted (it was mint choc, don’t argue.) But now that the Sydney-born gelato masters have teamed up with Peters, there’s now that decadent, classic Messina frozen treats right in the ice cream section of your local supermarket.

Yep, the two iconic Aussie brands have combined their sweet treat powers to make crazy-decadent Drumsticks, filled with four classic Messina flavours.

If you’re dubious about how the gelato can taste when it’s not fresh from the shop, us here at the PEDESTRIAN.TV offices got our grubby hands on some of the new Drumsticks and had a great time ~ripping cones~ in office hours.

On the refreshing side of things, the Mango & Salted Coconut has both sorbet and sauce made from Kensington Pride mangoes, mixed with Murray River salted coconut sorbet and topped with toasted coconut flakes.

More into the classic flavours? The Vanilla Bean & Peanut Praline might be more to your tastes – rich vanilla bean ice cream folded with crunchy peanut praline and some dark chocolate to cut through the sweetness (and so you can tell yourself that it’s kinda healthy, actually.)

If you’re a sucker for those Ferrero Rochers that one relative seems to always bring to Christmas in absurd amounts, then the Roasted Hazelnut is going to be right up your alley. Messina has created their own hazelnut sauce that has been swirled through seriously sinful gelato (ugh why do I sound like an aunty who’s just busted out the rosé?) and topped off with roasted hazelnuts.

And finally, the Messina piece de resistance – the Dulce de Leche. The famous Messina caramelly sauce gets folded through wildly creamy gelato, with a heap of chocolate-coated bickie pieces mixed in. Good lord.

100% me, right now.

For a limited time, you can grab a four-pack of these bad boys for $9.99 from your local ColesWooliesIGA, or independent supermarket from mid-January. Or pick up a Mango & Salted Coconut or a Roasted Hazelnut cone from your local servo for $4.90.
