FINALLY: A Survey Revealed Which Fast Food Restaurant Serves Up The Best Hot Chips In Australia

A new survey has revealed which restaurant has Australia’s greatest tasting hot chips and I’m honestly not surprised with the winner. It’s what they deserve!

Hot chips are deadset one of the best things that humanity has ever created. They’re convenient, you can eat them during any season and they’re pretty much delish with any topping.

And like most foods, everyone adds their own little touch to their recipes to make them unique. From the type of cut to the seasoning and even the type of potato, each hot chip in every single store is different. But which fast food restaurant has the crème de la crème of hot chips?

Strategic insight agency Nature recently published a new report which unveiled Australia’s “Greatest Tasting Hot Chips”. And to give you a quick TL;DR on the research method: in May 2023, 750 Aussies had their survey responses and historic quick service restaurants (QSRs) transactions analysed, leading to the revelation of Australia’s number one hot chip.

Well, according to Nature’s research, Australia’s greatest tasting hot chips are from KFC, with 76 per cent of Aussies vouching for the finger-licking good restaurant. Surprisingly, Red Rooster sat at second with 67 per cent and in third place is Grill’d at 65 per cent.

Speaking news.com.au, James Jayesuria, Nature partner and managing director, said: “KFC was named as having the best hot chips in the country, with some clear, key themes giving it an advantage: thicker, chunkier cuts, crispy texture and being well-seasoned.”

Emphasis on “well-seasoned” because, as a chip foodie, I can confirm that KFC chips are the most seasoned hot chips in the fast food market.

I’m not gonna lie, I do fancy Grill’d chips — especially their zucchini fries with chipotle aioli — but nothing will ever replace my love for KFC chips. The seasoning is just sooo darn good. It’s what I would imagine gold dust would taste like.

Also, KFC chips bring back a lot of nostalgia for me. I used to work there during my high school days, and the smell of that seasoning landing on the freshly cooked chippies had me salivating. And from memory, the seasoning was so light that if you were refilling the salt shakers it would literally fly everywhere.

As for Red Rooster’s place on the ranking … yeah, I don’t know about that, sis.

Don’t get me wrong, Classic Roasts from Red Rooster slap, but the chips? Yeah. Nah, mate. Also, where the hell is Oporto and Hungry Jacks on this ranking ‘cos one of them definitely deserves third place.

With the greatest tasting hot chips in Australia being announced, I think we need to shift our focus to the best Halal Snack Pack in Australia.
