With summer festival line-ups being released almost daily, we are well on our way into the festival season. Now the ever evolving, always interesting arts and music programme of the Sydney Festival will include you (and 99,999 others) for John Baldessari’s interactive artwork “Your Name in Lights”.
Drawing on pop cultures obsession with fame Baldessari is giving you the chance to see your very own name in lights – literally – for your very own 15 seconds of fame. I don’t know whether my registration for this was out of curiosity or vanity but Baldessari is calling for over 100,000 names to be illuminated on the external wall of the Australian Museum on a giant 30-metre screen. With a successful registration you will be informed when your name will be up in lights for 15 seconds through out the three weeks of the 2011 Sydney Festival from 8 – 30 January.
