The Line For Cheap ‘Book Of Mormon’ Tix Took Up An Entire Melbs CBD Block

Well then. This went well.

Tickets for ‘The Book of Mormons extra-special sneaky preview show in Melbourne officially just went on sale at 10am this morning, but you’re pretty much already shit out of luck.
Not only did the hit production add a bonus preview show one day before its Australian debut on January 18th, but they decided to put all tickets up at a staggeringly low price of $20 – some $100-odd underneath what the cheapest tickets are listed at for the show’s regular season.
And uh… yeah. Turns out that’s been a pretty popular move.
The tickets can only be purchased in-person from the Princess Theatre box office, and people began arriving to lineup well into the dead of last night. The first fans arrived to queue up at 4:30pm yesterday.
They were quickly joined by a pack of others keen to camp out overnight in balmy summer conditions.
Those at the front of the line got a sneaky visit from some of the Australian cast of the production at around 10:00pm last night.

By morning, the line had grown from “big” to “outrageous,” stretching from the theatre, across Bourke Street, and down as far as Russell and Collins Streets.

Production staff fed the waiting throng of hopeful punters with doughnuts earlier this morning.

But by 9am this morning, a full hour before tickets went on sale, officials were forced to close the line off to new punters due to overwhelming demand.

The special cheap preview show is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17th. If you’re keen to see the show during its extended run in Melbourne, current availability puts your butt in a theatre seat sometime around late March.
