There’s Now A Chance To See ‘Book Of Mormon’ For $40, If Ya Feeling Lucky

The doors are officially open on ‘The Book of Mormon‘s run at Melbourne’s historic Princess Theatre, and the mostly sold-out show is drawing in huge crowds on a daily basis.
Though tickets for the show are reasonably expensive, the production has been good to punters by offering up the chance to see the show for a pittance.
Quite sensationally, the show put on a preview performance for punters willing to lineup overnight at the box office, with the $20 ticket offer shutting down an entire Melbourne CBD block after tickets went on sale a couple of weeks ago.
You might have missed out on that opportunity – most people who weren’t willing to line up from before the sun set the night before did – but fortunately for you that is not your last chance to see the show for a price that won’t see you selling kidneys to make rent.
The production – which is *technically* still in previews ahead of a proper opening on Saturday – today announced a ticket lottery system, which if you’re lucky enough could see you score tickets to any of the show’s performances for a tidy $40.
The way it works is fairly simple: At each show the box office will put a select few tickets up for grabs. You show up to the theatre two-and-a-half hours prior to the start of the show and put your name down, along with how many tickets you’re keen for (up to a maximum of two). Names are then drawn out of a hat lottery-style, and the lucky winner gets a seat in the theatre for a coupla lobsters.
You’ve gotta be present when the tickets are drawn two hours before curtains in order to score them, and you’re only allowed one entry per customer. There’s no guarantee your name will be called throughout the run of the show, and the whole thing is entirely based on luck. But hey, if your name is called? $40 seats to the hottest show in town. That ain’t bad at all.
The lottery system was first implemented by ‘Book of Mormon‘ during its Broadway run, and has since followed the show across two US national tours, as well as trip over to London’s West End.
If you feel like chancing your arm, simply rock up to the Princess Theatre box office 2.5 hours before the start of any show, and put your name in the hat.
Who knows! You might get lucky on day one.
The Book of Mormon‘ runs every day of the week except Monday, with two shows on Saturdays.
