Robert Downey Jr had to warn fans to steer clear of his Instagram overnight, after someone hacked into his account and used it for an iPhone giveaway scam.

Several hours ago, a post appeared on his profile, saying: “I’m giving away 2000x FREE iPhone XS & MUCH MORE on my Instagram story RIGHT NOW! Claim them before they’re ALL gone!”
Followers were directed to his story, where there was a “swipe up” post to claim a phone. The actor’s bio was also edited, with a link to a form asking for personal info.
Robert Downey Jr took in at least $75 million for Avengers: Endgame, so for that kind of money, he could literally buy 2000 iPhones and hand them out on the street for shits and giggles.
That said, the giveaway was definitely not legit, and he took to Twitter to warn his followers away from it, saying his account had been “compromised.”
“Thank you all, I love you 3000” he signed off.
I’m sorry to say my Instagram has been compromised… Please steer clear for the time being until it’s sorted. Thank you all. I love you 3000.

A short time later, the actor took to his Instagram to announce that he’d reclaimed it, and apparently at this stage Ultron is the most likely suspect. “Hackers gonna hack,” he wrote. “Boo.”
