I have the fondest memories of hearing her mixed tapes for the first time back when she was a budding rapper, then seeing her hit the big time (albeit briefly) with ‘212’ and dragging my friends to her set at music festivals, only to have her cancel herself in a way that I’ve never seen any other artist cancel themselves.
There was a point where every goddamn week a mate would hit me with a “Did you see what your girl’s done now?” text after she’d instigated yet another embarrassing public feud, including launching racial and homophobic slurs at Zayn Malik or cussing out a prepubescent Disney star on Twitter or causing an international incident on a flight.
And the chickens, my god the chickens…
It was around this time that I, too, was forced to cancel Banks because, while I believe in second chances, she had well and truly passed the bounds of redemtion.
But if she wasn’t cancelled before, let me tell you, she is so cancelled now that you will never again so much as see me play her 2, maybe 3 good songs when I’m given AUX cord privileges.
“My girl”, as my friends once put it, is so dead to me that it’s like Thanos has snapped his fingers and ashed her into oblivion.
Just when you thought she’d committed every unforgivable deed she could, including murder (see: the chickens), she’s gone and done another: She’s disrespected Lizzo.
B*nks (yep, that’s where we’re at) took aim at our lord and saviour in a series of nasty ass Instagram comments.
“Lmao the fact that the public and the media has been keeping this fat girl joke going for so long is honestly peak boredom,” she wrote following news that Lizzo’s ‘Truth Hurts’ had hit the number one spot.
“The song is not good, nor is the dumpy fat girl spectacle live set she does. Saddest bit is that the girl is legit talented and truly only being allowed to shine so long as she allows herself to be this millennial mammy of sorts.”
“Queen Latifah was able to represent for larger women without being a disgusting or being a minstrel,” Banks continued. “So was Missy Elliot. Lmao Lizzo is really millennial mammy I’m ready this joke to be over.”
In further comments, Banks dragged a number of other musicians she has a dislike for into the proceedings, too.
“Like illiterate Cardi then fat Lizzo. They are really choosing the worst of the black womens crop to advertise America with,” she wrote.
“I guess they saw us moving too fast with it because if you realize, after Beyoncé became political in ways they didn’t like the elite stopped giving her that top top spot and started cycling out these lessers like Cardi and Lizzo (even Lil Nas X trash ass buckbreak mountain anthem) giving them Beyoncé level accolades while both being no where near the level of black female excellence she is.”
She added, “She looks like she is making a fool of her black self for a white American public.”
In a final comment Banks also took aim at Adele, who she said “can’t sing.”
