Lizzo‘s ‘Truth Hurts’ has just reached the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts 2 whole years after its initial release, subsequently confirming the power of fate, endurance and being 100% that bitch.

Lizzo took to Instagram today to confirm the news:

“WE’RE NUMBER 1. THIS IS A W FOR ALL OF US. ANYBODY WHO EVER FELT LIKE THEY VOICE WASN’T HEARD. ANYBODY WHO FELT LIKE THEY WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU ARE. WE ARE. CHAMPIONS. I LOVE YALL 3 MUCH. LIZZBIANS UNITE… SCROLL TO SEE MY ANNOYING ASS BLOOD SWEAT N TEARS”

I love that she calls the fanbase her Lizzbians. Name a more iconic collective name.

It’s ironic that ‘Truth Hurts’ has now become Lizzo’s biggest success, considering that it’s the very same tune that nearly made her quit music altogether.

Speaking to People magazine, she talked about the disappointment of ‘Truth Hurts’ flopping back in 2017. “The day I released ‘Truth Hurts’ was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had ever in my career,” she said. “I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares.’”

“I was like, ‘Fuck it, I’m done.’ And a lot of people rallied; my producer, my publicist and my family, they were like, ‘Just keep going because this is the darkest before the dawn.’”

This year, ‘Truth Hurts’ received newfound traction after it featured on the Netflix film Someone Great. This then led to the DNA test challenge, a viral TikTok trend consisting of kids across the globe swabbing their mouths to reveal their heritage.

She continued: “Now the song that made me want to quit is the song that everyone’s falling in love with me for, which is such a testament to journeys: Your darkest day turns into your brightest triumph.” Truly inspiring shit.

Lizzo’s success highlights the importance of enduring through the dark moments. ‘Truth Hurts’ is a symbol for those currently feeling underestimated, signifying that hard work, courage and humility will always prevail.

Cardi B also took to Twitter today to send her congratulations to queen Lizzo.

What a day for greatness.

Now let’s celebrate by hulk-smashing the play button.
