Say Sayonara To Your Six-Second Videos, ‘Cos Vine Is Officially Being Axed

This is the sad part about the increasing unity between tech and culture: shit that don’t make money will collapse, taking all the beloved cultural content with it. Vine, the six-second video platform which had a cultural impact waaaaay beyond its comparatively meagre userbase thanks to extremely keen content creators, is dead. Twitter, the struggling owner of Vine, is shuttin’ that shit down.

Since 2013, millions of people have turned to Vine to laugh at loops and see creativity unfold. Today, we are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app.

Nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today. We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way. You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website.

This is sad, because there was genuinely bucketloads of great, great content on Vine – preserved eternally in those kinda annoying compilations on YouTube. But still, this is like Teen Woodstock. Gen Z are going to be reminiscing on Vines forever.
