Amazon just announced a string of celebrity voices for its Alexa assistant, and for the measly price of $0.99, you can be assisted by the sweet, sweet sound of Samuel L. Jackson. So it looks like your errand-running just got a little more interesting.
Each feature voice will set you back 99c US, with a number of other celebrity voices also included in the rollout. Talk about a bargain.
The celebrity voices come as part of a string of new Amazon launches including wearable tech for both humans and pets.
“This avalanche of new products underlines Amazon’s desire to extend Alexa’s reach to every part of people’s lives – be that in the home, or on the move via new Echo Buds or in the car through the deal with General Motors,” Geoff Blaber, an CCS Insight analyst said.
“Not only will it will strengthen Amazon’s reach with existing customers that use Alexa-powered products, it will also provide the opportunity to woo more consumers to embrace its increasingly ubiquitous voice assistant.”
But it gets better. The Samuel L. Jackson voice will even give you the option to choose a clean or explicit assistant. You know, just in case you really wanted Samuel L. Jackson to tell you to fuck off.
Jackson has become a household name in Hollywood thanks to his memorable one-liners in Snakes On A Plane, Pulp Fiction and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So get ready for Samuel L Jackson to tell you to “get these mother fucking snakes off this mother fucking plane.”
Amazon have announced that other celebrities will follow Samuel L Jackson, but we don’t have any names just yet.
The new software uses “neural text-to-speech” technology to mimic the voices of legends like Samuel L. Jackson to brighten your otherwise boring daily tasks.
SLJ is the first celebrity to take part in the new Alexa voiceover program that will be released to the public later this year.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go invest in an Amazon Alexa so Sammy L. Jackson can tell my lazy ass to go to the gym.
