Live Your Dream Of Becoming A Car Mechanic In Upcoming Game ‘Wrench’

If you’ve ever dreamed of being a racecar mechanic, we’ve got great news; there’s a VR game that’ll let you live that dream from the comfort of your own home. It’s called Wrench and as the Steam description says, it’s a “highly detailed race car mechanic simulator that tasks you with running a motorsports prep shop”.

It was announced today for early access via a trailer which shot to the front page of Reddit in a post titled “I quit my job 16 months ago to build this game about fixing race cars,” made by one of its creators.

“Most of the game flow revolves around servicing customer cars,” poster, AlecMoody wrote in the thread. “That means complete cars come into your shop and you diagnose and repair them based on described symptoms.”

Essentially, every part on the car has a wear rate expressed as a number of race hours to replacement. Customers are persistent and they have their own race schedules and you do the necessary maintenance on their cars to keep them running. There are also a few other categories of tasks like detailed track inspections for new customers, and simple things like fluid and pad changes for new players to get started with.

You can check out the trailer for Wrench below.

While it looks as though VR is the main focus in terms of platform, the Steam page does mention that it will be fully playable as a regular PC game. There’s no hard release date just yet other than “Fall 2018,” so expect it sometime in our Spring, which is, uh, now. So soon. Or just become an actual mechanic or whatever.
