If you’re anything like me, the prospects of owning your home seems to become increasingly dim every single day. That dwindling dream has become the so-sad-it-actually-rules concept for one of Steam‘s best selling games of the week, House Flipper.
The aim of the game is to buy a shitty, rundown house, fix it up, and sell it for a profit. Just like real life, only without the need for hundreds of thousands of real dollars. You’ll deal with problems like roach infestations, dilapidated interiors, demolition, and even electrical work as you turn your fixer-upper into a domestic palace.
In other words, this is essentially an interactive version of The Block sans the insufferable contestants. Why is it so popular? Well, the same can be asked about The Block. Folks just seem to dig this home renovation nonsense for some reason.

Soothing, no? It seems like a great game to put on after a few frustrating rounds of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Trade those final circle jitters for a paint roller and consequence-free property investment. Mmm, the dream.
Is it sad that homeownership and property investment has become so foreign to our generation that we actually derive enjoyment from playing it out via a simulation? Incredibly, but hey, it’s as close as most of us will get anytime soon.
