Four Women On How They Shift Their Makeup According To Their Mood

Remember when everyone was sorely misguided and thought makeup was worn to be attractive to others? What a time! I’d like to think we’ve progressed enough now to know that if a honey is wearing something a little extra on top of their facial birthday suit, it’s probs because of how it makes them feel, not you.

We spoke to four bonafide babes on how their makeup choices shift according to what’s going on mood-wise. If you want some inspiration for next time you’re feeling sassy or whatnot, keep reading.

Getting glammed up and wearing makeup allows me to really express my personality. Just like my personality, there are so many facets to my makeup routine and that is what I love most about being able to play with makeup and express myself through that.

I can express just the way I’m feeling through not only the way I apply my makeup but what colours I wear. Colour is a huge part of my job and lifestyle, so going for a dramatic dark, vampy lip can speak louder than 1000 words.

The whole concept of makeup is like art to me. Your face is the canvas and your products the paints, so it’s no wonder makeup is such a creative outlet for expressing yourself. I am a self-confessed chameleon by nature, and I think this is reflected in my revolving looks. I like to be adventurous with colours and test the many ways a singular product can be used. I still abide by a “less is more” policy and on most days, my face agenda is natural and glowy, reflecting my pretty relaxed no-fuss attitude.

My mood definitely determines my makeup choices. On the days I feel fresh and confident, I really dig my natural look and like to keep things simple with glowy skin, lipgloss and a wash of shimmery bronzer and blush. The aim is always to enhance not hide, and I think if you do that you really can’t stuff anything up. When I want to bring a little more drama into my life/face/outfit, a bold lip and bronzy eye are my go-to’s for ‘pazow’ with zero effort. What can I say, I’m lazy.

I keep my makeup looking fairly similar at all times – I like to think I’m reliable like that.

My go-to makeup look is always dewy, bronzed, with highlighted skin – that’s a must.  Sometimes I’ll add a winged liner if I want to feel a little more ‘done’, a bright lipstick if I’m feeling playful, and if I’m feeling a little grungey I’ll do a smudged-out smokey eye.

My makeup routine is pretty basic, though I do like to ensure I buy the best brands that work for my skin. I love experimenting with a bold lip colour and do my best to match that to my personality and outfit depending on my mood. As I’ve gotten older though, I have realised that a good skin regimen is just as important as the makeup I apply to my face. So cleansing and moisturizing have become a big part of my skincare routine.

I like a nude lid, highlighter on my cheeks and then a lip colour that pops. If it’s date night with my boy I’ll rock a red lip and if I am heading to meetings the colour palette will be more natural. I definitely get lazier with my routine in winter so my go-to becomes a good tinted moisturizer, concealer under the eyes and a light brush of bronzer on my cheeks to give me some shape. Brows as always are uber important for me and I ensure they are always tinted and well kept.
