Melbournians, it’s time to dust off your camping swag, thermos and riot gear; you’re in for a sleep-out as Spanish retail giant Zara plans to open imminently on Bourke St. Taking over the space previously occupied by Supre, the official trading date will be announced tomorrow at a press conference. With a media and VIP launch night penned for June 14, we can only predict that the official opening will be soon after.
Nestled amongst department stores David Jones and Myer, the Usain Bolt of high street retail should offer some stiff competition. It wasn’t uncommon to see a queue weeks after the opening of the Sydney store and ABC’s Hungry Beast reported that 80% of the stock sold out in the first 3 minutes. Wowzers. With 2000 stores cropping up in 70 countries, can we assume that by the year 2021 the whole world will be one giant Zara store?
