All Schools In SE QLD Closed As Cyclone Debbie Dumps Shitload Of Rain

See this?

That’s all of south-east Queensland right now. From Gladstone right down to Port Macquarie in northern New South Wales. In amongst all that murk somewhere is Brisbane, and it is currently copping an absolute pizzling thanks to the lingering remnants of Cyclone Debbie.
The severe cyclone made landfall in North Queensland on Tuesday, but the associated weather systems are now pushing south into the bottom corner of the state.
This Weatherzone GIF is a good example of how psycho the weather is right now.

I’m no professional meteorologist, but purple on a weather map is never good.

The threat of severe weather is so high that Queensland Police have officially ordered all schools from Agnes Water, north of Bundaberg, down to the QLD/NSW border to close. The closure order also extends as far inland as Nanango and Toowoomba.

Parents in QLD have been advised that children already dropped off at school will be looked after, but if they can be safely collected earlier that was advisable.

Queensland Police are also advising motorists to stay off the roads wherever possible, and have suggested that businesses consider allowing employees to leave early, in a staggered fashion.

Brisbane is already seeing low-level flooding in select areas.

Even the Story bridge is starting to disappear… #bigwet

The Bureau of Meteorology‘s severe weather warning predicts that as much as 250mm of rain will fall in the warning area of SE QLD, with select areas to cop far more than even that.
Meanwhile, thousands of holidaymakers caught in Debbie’s wrath on the Whitsunday Islands remain trapped as evacuation efforts are continually hampered by bad weather.
Reports of theft and looting are rolling in from the locked-down Airlie Beach, as criminals take advantage of the bad situation.
Banjo’s restaurant chef Damian Rogers did not mince his words about those with the gall to commit crime in difficult times.

“This is the biggest cyclone I have ever seen and for someone to go around stealing while people are locked down, you are lower than dog shit as far as I’m concerned.”

The damage bill from Cyclone Debbie is still being assessed by authorities.

Stay safe and dry, friends. It’s a wet one out there.
