A Refugee Took The Photo Trump Jr. Used For His Gross As Hell Skittles Meme

In the unmistakable voice of Chandler Bing
“Could Donald Trump and his spawn *BE* any worse?”
Well, yes.
So, you may be aware of the drama over Donald Trump‘s son, Donald Trump Jr., posting a incendiary and honestly quite fucking shithouse photo to Twitter that compared displaced Syrian refugees to Skittles, yeah

Well, it turns out that the guy who took the Skittles stock photo was actually a refugee himself.
48-year-old photographer David Kittos has told the BBC that he would never approve their usage of his photo, as he himself arrived in Britain as a Greek-Cypriot refugee.
“I am now a British citizen but I am Greek-Cypriot by birth and in 1974 I was a refugee because of the Turkish occupation.

I was six years old. We lived in the area of Cyprus that is now under Turkish military control.
We had to leave everything behind overnight. Our property and our possessions.”
Kittos says that he posted the image to Flickr in 2010 as a lighting test and was not asked for permission to use it.

“I have never put this image up for sale. I don’t support his (Donald Trump’s) policies and I would never take his money to use it.”
Despite the fact that many photos on Flickr are able to be used under ‘Creative Commons licensing, Kittos‘ image is registered as ‘All Rights Reserved’, which means he’s got full rights under copyright law.

Kittos has considered contacting lawyers, but reckons he doesn’t have the patience:

“This isn’t about the money for me. They could have just bought a cheap image from a micro stock library.”
