2 People Charged For Allegedly Stealing Handbag From Fatal Car Crash Scene

A man and a woman have been charged, with the man facing court today, after they allegedly stole a handbag from the scene of a serious car crash in Gosford. The woman whose handbag was allegedly stolen later died at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Police say the pair removed the handbag from the scene and took it to nearby house, where they removed cards, which were used to purchase cigarettes and alcohol. The family of the woman, aged care nurse, 62-year-old Kay Shaylor say they noticed unusual transactions on her account and cancelled the cards immediately.
Superintendent Danny Sullivan, speaking at Gosford Police Station, confirmed that the community response has been overwhelming. “I think others have adequately described what they see,” he said. “They are using words like ‘low-life’ and describing it as one of the lowest crimes they’ve ever seen, and I can do nothing but agree with those words.”

The incident in question occurred on September 3, after Shaylor’s vehicle was hit head-on by another vehicle at approximately 6am. The 20-year old driver of the other vehicle faces charges of dangerous and negligent driving occasioning death, and was allegedly unlicensed.
