Jarryd Hayne Trademarks Own Name, Set To Make Bank

We’re doing a lot of Jarryd Hayne coverage lately, but frankly there hasn’t *really* been a sports story like his in a long time, if ever.

What we know to be true already is that Hayne has shown an extremely surprising ability to adapt quickly to his new profession, dazzling just about everyone with a pair of stellar performances in San Francisco‘s two pre-season game thus far, as he makes his (strong) case for a spot on the 49ers final 53-man roster.
We also took a speculative look at what exactly Hayne can expect to make this year in his pursuit of being a pro-NFL athlete.
Now that monetary picture is becoming a little bit clearer, thanks to the revelation of a few business moves Hayne has smartly made in recent days.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that two weeks ago Hayne filed the paperwork to establish the company “JH38 Holdings,” which incorporates both his initials and his 49ers jersey number. Through this company, Hayne has filed to trademark the use of his own name for a wide range of consumer goods – stuff like clothing, sporting goods, toys, games, and even luggage, umbrellas, and wallets.
The move, by and large, is precautionary – getting ahead of things now before they get out of hand – and is really more about “brand protection” at this stage, rather than any dedicated move to start merchandising immediately. Jarryd, after all, still doesn’t have a full-year playing contract to put his signature to just yet.
But with his set of skills, name recognition in Australia, and highly marketable face? That all translates to one thing.
