Australian NFL Player Jesse Williams Has Been Diagnosed With Cancer

Young Australian footballing behemoth Jesse Williams will undergo surgery after being diagnosed with cancer.

The defensive tackle, currently with the Seattle Seahawks, received the news that he has Papillary Type 2 Kidney cancer, and would require urgent surgery to help tackle the awful illness.
Williams issued a statement through the Seahawks website earlier today.

“Although disappointing, I am a fighter and will handle this. I am going to focus on my health and fighting this battle with a return to football as my ultimate goal. Thank you for your thoughts and support. Go Hawks!”

Seahawks General Manager John Schneider threw the organisations support behind the young Aussie and his new battle.

“Jesse is an extraordinarily tough individual who has overcome a great deal in his life and we will support him in any way possible. He is in our thoughts and prayers.”

Williams was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft (pick 137 overall), but the 24 year-old’s professional career has been derailed by knee injuries that have prevented him from playing a single down for Seattle. He did, however, pick up a Super Bowl ring as part of the sideline squad during the Hawks triumph over the Denver Broncos at Super Bowl XLVIII.

Prior to entering the pros, Williams enjoyed a highly decorated college career for the powerhouse University of Alabama Crimson Tide, which included back-to-back national championships in 2011 and 2012.

Cancer’s a complete shit. Kick its arse, mate.
