Our local crew at the Today Show are pulling up their stumps and temporarily relocating to the sunny plains of the U-S-of-A for a week of shows broadcast live from across the pond. Karl Stefanovic, Lisa Wilkinson and the rest of the gang will be split up and sent across the country to call in from a range of different places, with Karlos and Lisa anchored in Times Square as New York Fashion Week overtakes the city.
And, because we can’t just be told that they’re going somewhere without having some hokey promo produced, we’ve got this video to accompany the trip. But here’s the kicker: This is actually pretty darned good.
A supercut of famous scenes from some iconic American movies has been put together – all featuring scenes set in New York. Clever! – with the Today cast superimposed into it.
Admittedly, Lisa’s Crocodile Dundee bit is a little slow and presenter-ish. But things really kick up a notch when ole’ Karlos is let loose “opposite” Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. Then comes the weirdly attracted reaction shots of Carrie Bradshaw paired to Sylvia Jeffreys, and the frankly flat-out GENIUS insinuation that Dicky Wilkins is a ghost, or at least old enough to be one.
And there’s an added little bonus lol for all you videophiles out there when Karl’s Slurpee cup fucks with the chroma key in the final shot.
