Don’t Panic, But Karl Stefanovic Might Be Moving On From ‘Today’

Things are different in the uncanny valley of breakfast TV. Nobody should have the right to smile that broadly at 6.37am on a Wednesday, and you can never be sure if there’s any actual coffee in those mugs.
Still, for all of the ~wacky hijinks~ Australia’s brekky TV crews get up to, there’s still a tonne of routine admin work for them to plough through.
But when Karl Stefanovic has to do it, shit gets real.

Today’s anchor, pub-crawl inspiration, and subject of a growing international fanbase has reportedly entered contract negotiations with Channel 9. Of course, there’s every chance nothing changes and we can continue to liberally sprinkle some Karl on our cereal in the morning, but there’s growing speculation that Uncle Karlos may be leaving the morning institution after eleven years.
It’s not even the first time morning TV viewers have had to imagine mornings without him; the same rumours were floated last year, and if he does leave the couch his brother Peter may be tapped as his immediate replacement to keep the Stefanovic quotient at a reasonable level.
FWIW, our boy said he’d consider hosting a late-night show on Nine on top of The Verdict, so we haven’t seen the last of him just yet, even if he does opt for a sleep in. Still, if all else fails, he could also make the spring into politics with the Australian TV empress Lee Lin Chin.
