100-Yr-Old Actor Comes Out As Gay, Proving It’s Never Too Late To Be Who You Wanna Be

Ready for a heart-warming story to end a pretty brutal week of news? Polish actor Witold Sadowy has come out as gay during an interview with Polish TV channel TVP Kultura. The sit-down chat was part of a documentary celebrating his 100th birthday, titled One Hundred Years of Witold Sadowy. And now I’m crying.

“For me the most important thing is the survival of the truth,” Sadowy said, near the end of the doco. “I am proud that I am an honest man. I didn’t get married and I didn’t have children – something I really regret. But I was born different.”

“I’m gay. Now I have said everything, as in confession.”

Given the current climate surrounding the treatment of LGBTQIA+ folk in Poland – a third of the nation recently declared itself an “LGBT-free zone” – it’s not super surprising that a man born in 1920 would come out 100 years later (if anything, it’s extremely brave that he came out at all). Still, Sadowy’s coming out is a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to embrace you who truly are and be who you truly want to be.

May you be blessed with all the warm and fuzzies.
