WATCH: Kesha Sings Thanks To Supporters Of Her Dr Luke Legal Battle

The focal point of Kesha’s ongoing legal battle against her longtime producer Dr. Luke and record label Sony is her claim an individual should be freed of contractual obligations to an alleged abuser. So far, that freedom has eluded the musician.

A consequence of that stalemate is her inability to release music outside of the label, which has only compounded her struggle; in fact, music as an artform  – and not just as a business venture – has almost entirely fallen out of the equation.

That’s what makes this clip, released today by her lawyer Mark Geragos, so unique. It’s not long, but in the 27 seconds she’s given, the muso reaches out to her growing legion of backers through song.

While it’s a little poetic she’d release some form of music to thank her supporters in a case that deals with releasing music, it might be a while before a full-length follow-up to 2012’s Warrior arrives.

Even before that happens, groundswells of anger and empathy have risen because of her case, and it’s obvious she’s felt them – and feels compelled to give back.
