Vogue Denied Interview To Go With Yoncé Shoot ‘Cos Queens Are Seen, Not Heard

When one lands an exclusive cover shoot with Queen of the World, Beyoncé, one mustn’t assume an interview will accompany said shoot.

US Vogue discovered this much after they shot her for their much-anticipated September issue and, instead of an in-depth interview as is standard procedure for Anna Wintour‘s ~farshun~ bible, had to go with a write-around, because Bey didn’t feel like chatting, because FAME.
GOD, VOGUE, YOU’RE SO STOOPID.

ICYMI, the 832-page monster had everyone frothing at the mouth (including us) when it hit the web because she looks fucking amazing and it was shot by the legendary Mario Testino etc etc.

So, instead of the usual interview that takes months of to-and-fro between the magazine’s editors and the celebrity’s publicist, Pulitzer-winning journalist Margo Jefferson settled with penning a short essay on her star quality.
She confirmed that Beyoncé contributed not a word to the piece to the The New York TImes hilariously titled ‘Beyonce Is Seen But Not Heard’.

“It was definitely posed to me [by Vogue] as … call it a think piece if you want. I had no contact with her camp.”
As the NYT points out, this is highly unusual for Vogue; a review they conducted found five years’ worth of cover articles indicates that she’s the ONLY celebrity cover star not to agree to some form of interview.
This is pretty normal behaviour for Bey these days, as it’s been reported that she inexplicably stopped giving face-to-face interviews at some point between 2013 to 2014.
She’ll appear at an event, sure, but any questions are answered over email – probs by a spokesperson – or, if for TV, are taped.
A slew of high-profile celebrities have granted interviews in exchange for Vogue’s coveted September issue cover spot in the past: Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian.
Even Michelle Obama agreed to a 1-on-1 when she appeared on the cover in 2013, and she even brought her husband, that President of the United States guy.
The msg is clear enough: when you’re Queen Bey, the world answers to you, NOT the other way ’round.
