Take A Sneak Peek At Sky Ferreira’s Miss Vogue Australia Cover Shoot, Interview

US anti-ingenue not named Miley Sky Ferreira demonstrates her trademark rough-hewn personal style and impeccable lip control in the newly released front cover for the second print edition of Vogue Australia’s youth-skewed digital component, Miss Vogue. The LA born, Sydney-bound singer-songwriter whose debut Australian tour we are v. excited to be supporting later this month stars in a surprisingly demure cover shoot dubbed Dark Star, styled by Stevie Dance and photographed by Christian MacDonald in New York City, and sounds off on a variety of subjects in an intriguing interview conducted by Miss Vogue editor, Alice Cavanagh, including creative authenticity, her music career and modelling. Here are a few key takeaways.

On authenticity: “It’s important for me to be myself. I think you might get what you want by pretending for a second but, but it all catches up with you in the end. In music it’s important to see someone being themselves, even if it means they fuck up. At least I am a real person and people can relate to me in that sense, you know? At least I’m not promoting an unrealistic vision of what people should be. I kind of wish there had been someone like that when I was younger.”

On her parents’ initial thoughts on her music career: “I think my mum thought it was cute at first but she never thought I was going to get signed. She thought Myspace was just a little project… I don’t think she processed it all until much later.”
On modelling: “When I was in ninth grade, I was getting told every day how ugly I was. The other kids would find something wrong with me and they would bully me about it; it really gave me a complex. It (modelling) was the first time someone embraced all the weird stuff about me. I was always told that my gapped teeth were funny and my upper lip was too big, then there were my dark circles and my pale skin. Once I started modelling, these were seen as a good thing and that was cool.”

Miss Vogue #2 is out now.
