Sweet angels Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are among the latest confirmed coronavirus cases in Australia, which is bad news for all of the people they’ve kindly taken selfies and shaken hands with in recent weeks.
The couple are currently in Australia for the filming of Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis biopic, but they’ve been making the most of their time in the country by sightseeing and mingling with fans.
Anyone who has been in close contact with Tom (or presumably Rita) has been instructed by the Queensland Government to self-isolate and quarantine.

In the past week, Rita Wilson has performed her A Night With Rita Wilson show at Brisbane’s Emporium Hotel on March 5. More recently, she visited Sydney, where she performed at the Opera House and on The Today Show.
Following Rita’s COVID-19 diagnosis, Nine has closed off parts of its Sydney office as a precautionary measure.
“In line with Nine’s crisis response plan, employees who had extended contact with Ms Wilson during her visit to the Willoughby studio have been sent home (as per government guidelines) and instructed to self-isolate and closely monitor their health,” Nine says, according to AdNews.
Perhaps more worryingly, Tom Hanks has come in to contact with a number of lucky fans, with whom he took photos and mingled with in recent days and weeks.
Multiple fans have taken to social media in recent weeks sharing their photos with the snap-happy actor all over the Gold Coast.
An Instagram user bumped into the Toy Story actor on a beach in the Gold Coast on March 1, where he cozied up for a selfie. Naturally, the Instagram post has now been flooded with comments urging him to self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19.
Hanks has also been spotted with fans at Mavis’ Kitchen in Mount Warning and on a Gold Coast beach where he took another photo with another fan.
If you’ve been lucky enough to meet the sweet angel that is Tom Hanks, please self-isolate immediately and get tested because you could be at risk. Thankfully, most of the glorious selfies we’ve seen were taken more than a week ago, so here’s hoping these people had their fan-girling moment before Tom and Rita contracted the virus. It is unclear exactly how long Tom and Rita have had the COVID-19 virus.
