Tom Hanks Has Coronavirus

Tom Hanks and his wife, actress and musician Rita Wilson, have tested positive for coronavirus.

Taking to Twitter, the beloved American star said he and Wilson fell ill during their travels through Australia.

“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches,” he said.

Hanks said the pair volunteered themselves to be tested for coronavirus “to play things right”.

Those tests came back positive.

He said the pair will be “tested, observed, and isolated” in keeping with Australian health guidelines regarding the virus.

Hanks has been spending time on the Gold Coast during the pre-production of Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

In a statement obtained by Deadline, a spokesperson for film studio Warner Bros. confirmed someone involved with the production had fallen ill with the virus.

“We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual,” the spokesperson said.

“The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world.”

Wilson performed at Brisbane’s Emporium Hotel on Thursday, March 5, following that up with a set at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday, March 7.

She also performed a set on The Today Show two days ago.

Earlier this month, Hanks was spotted taking selfies with fans in the Gold Coast region.

He also visited Sydney’s Bondi Beach this week.

More to come.
