Tightrope Madman Just Won’t Quit, Dusts Off Harbour Bridge Stunt Plans

Tightrope walker and general nutcase Philippe Petit has gotten some good mileage out of his now legendary walk between the World Trade Centre Towers

Award-winning documentary Man On Wire built the Frenchman’s mystique, but most recently The Walk has lent a romantic spin on the aerialist’s life.
Making movies isn’t Petit’s business, though. Walking between national icons in a particularly dangerous manner is; as it turns out, the 74-year-old is just the type of guy to propose a tightrope walk between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House
Petit describes the plan – which he’s kept on ice since his 1973 visit to Australia – as “an amazing proposal and it could be revived.”
“On my side, the whole project is ready to go it would would be beautiful to bring a magnificent celebration in Sydney.”
If by “magnificent celebration” he means “prolonged and collective freakout”, then yes, attempting to cross between the two national icons would be just fab. Just for reference, here’s a reminder of what that distance looks like:

We might just wait for the inevitable motion picture of this one too. For now, you can check out the trailer for The Walk below.
