Police Negotiating With An Unauthorised Climber On Sydney Harbour Bridge

Police negotiators are speaking with an unauthorised climber on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The man climbed the bridge around 4:30am today, and has moved about the structure as police continue to negotiate.

Multiple lanes have been closed to accommodate the man moving about, with police warning motorists to be aware of lanes closing suddenly.

“Due to the ongoing police operation on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, be aware it may be necessary to close lanes at short notice – please observe and obey all traffic signs and directions,” NSW Police tweeted.

“Please be aware the speed on the SHB is currently 40km/h while the police operation continues – motorists please slow down as there are emergency service officers responding to this ongoing incident.”

Motorists are being urged to avoid the bridge, and either delay their trip or use Victoria Road and Gladesville Bridge instead.

Southbound traffic is queued all the way back past the M2 Motorway at Macquarie Park, while northbound traffic is queued back to Huntleys Point on Victoria Road.

We’ll update this story as it continues to develop.
