The Kings X Coke Sign Celebrates Vivid 2017 With A Beaut Rainbow Makeover

Bet you thought that after that $100k raised for charity when it got auctioned off last year, the ol’ Kings Cross Coke Sign couldn’t get much more impressive, huh?
Go ahead and cop this, then: for the full duration of this year’s Vivid Festival, starting tonight, the new and improved sign’s right side is gonna be lighting up in all the colours of the ‘bow, man, in an ever-changing light show
The left side will feature projections of a series of powerful black-and-white portraits of people from the Kings Cross community: artists, performers, Wayside Chapel visitors and volunteers, local retailers and restaurateurs (including Kylie Kwong!).

The idea of the project, titled Characters of Kings Cross, is to celebrate the “talent, colour, creativity and diversity” of the Kings Cross precinct. The collaboration between Australian-based photographer Katherine Williams and local charity The Wayside Chapel is bringing about the first transformation of the iconic sign in its whole 40+ year history.
Coca-Cola are also taking the opportunity to run a donation drive for the Chapel’s winter appeal, which you can read more about here.
This the first time the Coke sign has participated in Vivid, and the whole thing is already just bloody beaut.
Go check it out, Sydney! And make sure you soak up the excellence of the rest of Vivid while you’re at it.
