There are easier ways to access pornography than through the City of Sydney’s official website, but that didn’t stop the council from unknowingly directing concerned citizens to an X-rated smut site anyway.
News.com.au reports that a City of Sydney fact sheet on dealing with bush rat infestations included a hyperlink to a site called Sydney Bush Rats.
Unfortunately, in the time since the fact sheet was first published in 2011 and when News.com.au accessed it, the Sydney Bush Rats domain name was apparently bought out – and repurposed to redirect users to a full-on porn site.
In the interests of journalistic inquiry, PEDESTRIAN.TV has confirmed the URL – which we will not link here – did indeed redirect to a porn website. We must also disclose that one of our editor’s phones may now require an exorcism.
A quick geez at the City of Sydney site shows the offending link has now been removed, lest any Sydneysiders reach unfounded conclusions about the onslaught of bush rats.
For what it’s worth, Sydney is genuinely struggling to handle the sheer number of rodents scuttling around the place. This week, Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the city will double the number of rat bait stations dotted around the place, in order to control the number of furry fiends disturbed by an “unprecedented number of major construction and infrastructure projects.”
Bad things happen when you erect too many shafts and lay too much pipe. Who’d have thought?
