Star Indonesian Goalkeeper Passes Away After Freak On-Field Accident

A goalkeeper from Indonesia’s top-tier football league has tragically passed away after a freak accident on-field, where he collided with a team-mate.

38-year-old Choirul Huda, was playing for his side Persela in the Indonesia Super League against opponents Semen Padang, when he collided with another player from his side whilst running out to collect the ball.

Huda was taken to hospital but later passed away from his injuries. Hospital Dr Zaki Mubarok said in a statement:

He was just brought to the hospital still breathing, but was lifeless at around 5pm. Through our analysis, it was due to a collision in the head and back of the neck.

Huda had played over 500 games in the league and his loss is being felt by the team. Persela boss Aji Santoso:

All of the players finished the game and went to the hospital, where it was announced that Choirul Huda had died.

The loss of Choirul Huda has hit us all hard. We did not have time to a see a doctor, only to see his body.
