Some Evil Genius Has Concocted Vegemite Ice Cream

Ice cream flavours have gotten considerably more exotic over the last few years, as your good old Neapolitan jostles for freezer space alongside the likes of Burnt Fig, Honeycomb & Caramel (which is all the one thing btw – ta, Maggie Beer).

None of that could possibly prepare us for what we witnessed earlier today. Ladies and gentlemen, we have simultaneously achieved peak ice cream and peak Straya with the advent of this little beauty:
Reddit Australia user tw33kz0r posted this photo overnight, taken at Dooley’s Ice Cream on the Great Ocean Road in Apollo Bay, Victoria. We’re trying to wrap our heads around it, but frankly, we’re stumped.
There’s no way that the thick, black tar, made out of excess brewers’ yeast and used both as a delicious sandwich spread and a means of trolling overseas visitors could combine well with sweet, cold ice cream.
OR IS THERE?!
All we can think about is jumping in the car and road tripping on down to Victoria to try a spoonful, but that in itself is a worry, because what if the oddly caramel-coloured concoction turns out to be delicious?
What Pandora’s Box of snack foods will we have opened, and will it ever be possible to slam the lid shut as other unspeakable things like pickle ice cream and anchovy ice cream come screaming out?
For the record, tw33kz0r tied some after snapping the pic. The verdict? “Not good … the taste was too strong.”
