Update: QLD Police reports that the man has surrendered to the authorities.
Police in Queensland’s Southport area have shut down streets after shots were fired from a residence in the area late last night.
The situation was escalated at 2am this morning, with local authorities urging residents to stay indoors. Residents of the apartment block in White Street, where the incident has been taking place, have been evacuated.
Residents in the vicinity of White Street in Southport are advised to stay indoors until further advised for their safety.

Southport is considered the Gold Coast’s central business district. Traffic between the area and parts of Surfer’s Paradise have been suspended. Police will not comment on speculation that the armed man has others with him in the unit.
