The man, who was arrested by Queensland Police on Monday after the discovery of the baby’s body on a Surfers Paradise beach, was yesterday transferred to Tweeds Head Police Station.

It was there he was charged with murder. He was refused bail, and is set to face Tweed Heads Local Court today.

Authorities allege the man threw his daughter into the water at Jack Evans Boat Harbour at Tweed Heads, and that her body eventually washed onto the beach some 30km north.

A Southport court yesterday heard that the man suffers from schizophrenia.

Speaking to the Gold Coast Bulletin, police sources said the man believed the baby was possessed by demons, and that she was killed as a “sacrifice.”

The child’s 23-year-old mother has not been charged.

Investigations are ongoing.
