Prince Philip has left hospital and is still alive, apparently. The Duke of Edinburgh, 99, was papped as he was dropped off at Windsor Castle after being in hospital more than a month, and my man does not look well.
Hmmmmm.
The Duke was admitted to the (poncy-sounding) Kind Edward VII hospital on February 16 after feeling unwell for several days, which the palace was keen to stress was NOT coronavirus-related (it was an infection).
After being treated, he was transferred to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital to undergo heart surgery, before going back to King Edward VII. Now, he’s back home with the Queen for a bit of recuperation, isolation, and haunting the halls with the other departed souls.
“The Duke of Edinburgh has today been discharged from King Edward VII’s Hospital and has returned to Windsor Castle, following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him at both King Edward VII’s Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and everyone who has sent their good wishes.”
Prince Philip has missed quite a bit while he’s been recovering, namely that his grandson Prince Harry and granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle told Oprah the royal family was a little bit racist, actually.
Specifically, Meghan said there was a royal who raised concerns over “how dark” her son’s skin would be.
Yes, it’s pretty fucked. And no, it wasn’t Prince Philip (surprising, I know!) – Oprah clarified that neither the Queen nor Philip said the racist thing. (Here’s my ranking of which royal I think did.)
The allegations are being “taken very seriously”, the Queen later said, but they still won’t tell us who said it.
Ah well. One for the royal biographers, I presume.
