Buckingham Palace confirmed the Duke of Edinburgh, 97, was involved in a crash on Thursday afternoon near the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Footage from the scene appears to show significant damage to his Range Rover, which rested near another vehicle which had driven off the road.

A spokesperson confirmed the Prince was not harmed in the crash. He was not admitted to hospital, and returned to Sandringham House where he was examined by a doctor.

Eyewitnesses at the scene report they helped a conscious Prince Philip out of his car, adding he was visibly shaken by the incident.

Two occupants of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. The driver and their passenger were treated in hospital, Norfolk Police states.

Prince Philip retired from public life in 2017, meaning younger generations of the royal family now handle all of the public appearances the British monarchy is known for.
