Pray For The 95K Aussies Who For Some Reason Still Use Dial-Up Internet

Odds are this here article is being presented to you through the wonders of modern, shiny broadband internet.

Orrrrrrrrrrr, maybe not: despite an ever-increasing uptake of mobile and quick-fibre internet connections, the latest ABS stats (and their fun little sliders) show there are still more than 95,000 dial-up connections around Australia. Yeah, you heard us. Dial-up.
Put another way, of 12.8 million internet connections in the country, a bit less than 1% belong to the Dark Ages.
For most of us, a bulletproof connection is just as important as, you know, running water, so asking how almost a hundred thousand dusty, off-white slow-boxes are still around isn’t as important as asking WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. Who are these people? Why do they want to punish themselves so?
The new data also outlines the voracious download habits of the rest of us – the ones with actual bandwidth.
From June 2014 to June 2015, broadband downloads shot up by around 40%, which lines up pretty nicely with the introduction of a little thing called Netflix Down Under
We can’t keep off the net on our phones either, with mobile downloads up 31% over the first six months of the year.
And if you *are* on this page through a dial-up connection, we’re actually not even mad. We’re impressed*.
*But srsly, get your shit together.
