MEME ON: Mobile Internet Use Has Exceeded Desktop For The First Time Ever

Remember when the internet was only ever accessible from your dad’s clunky desktop computer and mum would always yell at you to get off so she could speak to aunty Carol on the phone? Dial-up was a real bitch and all we ever wanted was to have an emoticon-heavy yarn to our friends on MSN Messenger and maybe nudge our crush to annoy them.

The times, they have changed. According to internet monitoring site StatCounter, internet use on mobile devices has exceeded desktop internet use for the first time ever. Combined mobile and tablet use hit 51.3% in October while poor, shitty desktop use slumped to 48.7%.

It sure is one heck of a milestone for the world wide web and a trend that will likely continue to grow. You’ve probably already noticed that your fave websites focus their design towards the mobile experience rather than the traditional desktop approach.
