A NSW Person In Their 20s Is On A Ventilator In The ICU, So Maybe It’s Time To Vaccinate Us

One of the Aussies being treated for COVID-19 with a ventilator is a young person in their 20s, NSW Health said today. This news came alongside a worrying 44 new COVID-19 cases in NSW.

At today’s NSW press conference, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant announced there are 43 Covid-19 patients in hospitals, with 10 of those individuals being in intensive care. Of this group, four people require ventilators, including a young person in their 20s.

Maybe this would be a good sign to vaccinate everyone across all ages, but alas, I am not the decision-maker around here.

“We have 14 people admitted to hospital at the moment with Covid-19 under the age of 55, and of those, seven are under the age of 35 and I’m just going to read this next piece very slowly,” she said during Friday’s press conference.

“Of the 10 people in ICU, one is in their 20s. One is in their 30s. One is in their 50s. Five are in their 60s and two are in their 70s.

“This trend has to be turned around, and the only way we can do so is by seeing a decline in numbers.

“Covid cannot affect people if you do not come into contact with them… that is the basis of the stay at home orders.”

The tighter restrictions hitting Sydney from 5pm on Friday 9 July are as follows:

“Nobody is allowed into your house,” said NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian

“Nobody outside your household is allowed into your house. The only exception is if you are receiving care by people, one person, dropping off essential goods or for health reasons or exceptional circumstances.”

Legitimate reasons for leaving your house during lockdown have also been drastically tightened up, with only one member of a household allowed to leave the house once a day for the purposes of shopping for essential goods.

According to Berejiklian, any unnecessary “browsing in shops” has been prohibited, so it looks like we’ll have to be incredibly in and out with our grocery shopping. No browsing the broccoli, please and thank you.

Stay safe out there NSW, let’s knock those numbers down together.
