Ooh look at this everyone. New character posters for Baz Luhrmann‘s adaptation of The Great Gatsby are here and, because they look fabulous and scream Glamour! Danger! Diamonds! Serious facial expression! – AND because the movie isn’t being released until 30 May 2013 (as opposed to the originally allotted date of Christmas Day 2012) – they provided a much needed boost to our slightly deflated sense of excitement about the movie.
Three of the film’s Australian stars, Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton and Elizabeth Debicki, stand before the bedazzled rectilinear backdrop that has featured in all the preview material to date. Baz’s wife, creative soulmate and Art Director, Catherine Martin, seems to have taken her design cues from one of the lasting monuments of the Art Deco period: the spire of the Chrysler Building in New York City.
Edgerton makes an aloof but extremely dapper Tom Buchanan, with flawless Ms Fisher as Myrtle Wilson dressed entirely in red (COLOUR SYMBOLISM ALERT), and a gorgeous Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.
