Netflix Has Picked Up Ricky Gervais Bonkers-Looking ‘David Brent’ Movie

Ahhh, Ricky Gervais. Comedian. Actor. Man totally unafraid to use Twitter to say *things*.
The British personality has plugged away at a career that keeps chugging along ever since shooting to prominence thanks to the now-iconic UK series ‘The Office‘ and his weapons-grade annoying lead character David Brent.
And some 13-odd years since Brent left the Wernham Hogg Paper Company, Gervais is going back to the well with his very own film.
We all know ‘David Brent: Life on the Road‘ has been in the works for some time now, with a trailer hitting the internet back in early April (though you’d be forgiven if you missed that one, as it just-so-happened to drop on the same day the first teaser for a little film by the name of ‘Rogue One‘).
The film is already scheduled to premiere in British cinemas this coming August, but now the question of how and when the rest of the world will see it has been answered.
Speaking with Opie Radio, Brent revealed that streaming juggernaut Netflix has snapped up the rest-of-the-world distribution rights to the film, which will premiere on the service in 2017, once the film’s OG theatrical commitments have wrapped up back in the UK. Gervais revealed the little titbit of info thusly:

“This is exciting news and this is top-secret, so I’m going to say it now. Netflix have bought out the rest of the world again, so everyone’s going to see it.”

“Which is great for me, because I’d rather 20 million people see it than half a million people see it in cinemas.”

Gervais also teased a full new trailer in celebration of the announcement.

Gervais and Netflix are not strangers to each other, with the pair teaming up for the recently-released feature film ‘Special Correspondents‘ which co-starred Eric Bana and premiered in late April to thunderously middling reviews.

Exactly when ‘Life on the Road‘ will hit the streaming service in 2017 is still anyone’s guess at this stage. But until then, cop a refresher on the film’s trailer and maybe have a renewed grumble about how two seasons and a Christmas special wasn’t nearly enough on-screen time for Tim & Dawn‘s relationship.
