Ricky Gervais Is Resurrecting David Brent For An Office-Spinoff Movie

There’s only so many cards in a deck. Eventually, you’ll have to play one twice. Ricky Gervais is finally doing just that; following through on the long-threatened feature length spinoff of his classic TV series The Office and in doing so formally bringing David Brent out of the war-chest full time.

The film, to be titled Life on the Road, follows the fortunes of Brent some 15 years after his redundancy from Wernham Hogg as he treks the UK on a self-funded musical tour.
So sayeth the press release: “He’s a sales rep now, selling cleaning products up and down the country, but has never really given up on his dream of being a rock star.
It turns out to be a ‘where are they now’ documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he’s getting in ticket sales. Tragic.
The Brent film follows other recent appearances by the character, with Gervais revisiting the character for last year’s Comic Relief special in the UK, along with launching a YouTube channel of David Brent “Learn Guitar” videos thereafter.
The film is confirmed to begin shooting early next year.
